Naomi discovered Lindy Hop in her hometown of Washington DC in 1997. Before graduating high school she had already been hand picked by Aretha Franklin to perform with her onstage, and had won numerous national level contests. Today she is a top performer and competitor and has collected over 25 first place titles at such major competitions as the US Open Swing Dance Championships, the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown, the American Lindy Hop Championships, and the International Lindy Hop Championships.
Swing dancing exposed her to the sounds of classic jazz, and when she’s not on the dance floor Naomi is a sought after DJ and singer. In 2005 she was selected for the “History of Jazz” internship at the Smithsonian’s American History Museum. These days she displays her knowledge of the genre through her singing, which she does with the top swing bands on the dance scene. She has recorded with the Cangelosi Cards and the Gordon Webster Band and has recently assembled a dream team of musicians for her own project “Naomi & Her Handsome Devils”.
Naomi is proud to be a teacher - to make her living spreading an understanding of Lindy Hop. If you visited her adopted home of Minneapolis you’d find her teaching locals to dance at “Uptown Swing”, but mostly you’ll catch her on the road as a top instructor at some of the world’s biggest swing dance events. As a dance instructor she has worked in over 20 countries and had taught thousands of students from the absolute beginner to the most advanced pupil. One of the most experienced Lindy Hop teachers of her generation, Naomi believes in followers having their own technique and that confidence comes from earning your skills as a dancer.
