Our theme for the summer to come will be… The Zoo! The choice might seem a little unexpected at a first glance, but if we look into the history of dancing, it’s not very difficult to find all kinds of dances and dance forms with a close connection to the animal world: Kangaroo Hop, Duck Waddle, Squirrel, The Chicken, Grizzly Bear, Turkey Trot, Bunny Hug et cetera.
The purpose of this theme is of course to look into all animal influences that over the years have influenced the Lindy Hop as well as many other jazz era dances. Embedded in the theme is also the production of animal costumes, and that the theme will strech into the “individual choice” that each participant will attend. In clear words: we have the intention to walk like camels, strut like roosters and dance like snakes – all the time!
In accordance with previous years, the event is a combination of dance classes, side-activities, performances, social dances and much more. The event offers two basic alternatives: Swing Kids (9-12 years old) and Swing Teens (13-17 years old). The basic schedule will offer activities from 10.00 until 16.40 every day plus evening activities between 20.00 and 22.00 Sunday to Wednesday.
In the middle of the action and fully in charge of the programs are well-known and long time Lindy Hop dancers/instructors Hanna and Mattias Lundmark. Their dance background is more than comprehensive and includes more than twenty years of experience in show business, dance instruction and organization of dance events of all kinds. Hanna has a professional education from the Swedish Academy of Ballet, and has been on stage with several theatre productions. Mattias has among many other things worked as tap dance coach and assistant choreographer in musicals such as Singin' in the Rain, Förklädet, Hairspray, A Hollywood tribute to Show Business, Book of Mormon, et cetera.
For the summer of 2019, the following alternatives are available:
- Week 1 (June 29 – July 5) – in Swedish: Swing Kids and Swing Teens.
- Week 2 (July 6 – July 12) – in Swedish and English: Swing Kids and Swing Teens.
The Swing Kids program consists of a mix of traditional dance classes and complementary play activities; the Swing Teens program consists of traditional dance classes but also a few classes together with adults and a general intention to put social dancing in focus. If many students will sign up for the individual weeks, some experienced participants might very well be hand-picked by Hanna and Mattias to form an additional group.
Three alternatives are availiable:
- Choreography – more focus on and preparation for the Thursday evening show including both dance and theatre.
- Tap – percussive dance where the performer is both a dancer and a musician (please bring tap shoes or possibly borrow a pair from our small selection).
- Streetdance – contemporary music and modern from all point of views.
SEK 2400 per person and week, which includes a registration fee of SEK 1000 that is paid by invoice from us.
