The HeART of Lindy Hop!
Within each dancer there is an artist with a heart that beats extra hard for something special. Something unique. Dancing and interacting with music is a craft as much as painting with brush and paint. But to become a Picasso, it is not enough to copy Picasso. One has to be interested in and understand many of the biggest painters and then create your own style! This year, Swing Kids and Swing Teens will be filled with art! In addition to the art of trying to master the Lindy Hop itself, we will also take a look at the artwork and choreographies created by famous swing dancers from all over the world! In addition, we will also take a guided tour in the Herräng exhibition around the legendary Frankie Manning.
At the camp, you will meet and learn from some of Lindy Hop´s greatest artists and learn more about what is inside the depths of their dance hearts! Beside us, the main organizers, Hanna and Mattias Lundmark, you will also meet the high profile swingdancers Åsa and Daniel Heedman, and Frida Segerdahl and Skye Humphries.
As usual, Swing Kids is meant for everyone between 9 and 12 years old, and beside dance classes we also have daily activities focusing on playing and getting to know each other. In Swing Teens, everyone is between 13 and 17 years old. New for this year is that the program will do two lessons together with an adult group. One of the main goals with Swing Teens is to get all students really comfortable with social dancing. For all our participants, this year will be a journey to find what makes your heart wanna dance!
Welcome to a camp full of the (he)art of dancing the Lindy Hop and all the artwork linked to it!
Week 1: June 30 – July 6, 2018
Week 2: July 7 – July 13, 2018
Week 1 is the ”Swedish week”, where all teaching will be in Swedish, while week 2 as usual is the "international week", where we especially encourage students from other countries to participate. The number of groups for both weeks depend on how many dancers that will sign up. This year´s camp has the same basic layout as previous years with dance classes, activities, Thursday show and Friday tea dance. The general lay-out and nature of the programs are very much like a ”day school”, where we take care of the children between 10.00 and 16.40 every day. As usual, we will also offer evening activities, where everyone is welcome to Folkets Hus Library at 20.00 from Sunday until Wednesday.
The camp costs SEK 2400, where a deposit of SEK 1000 has to be paid through an invoice when registered. It is also possible to order lunches at the price SEK 400 for six lunches plus a Thursday dinner.
Important for registration:
- please enter a correct email address so that we can send out information before the camp.
- please specify your ”own choice” in the free text box on your Herräng ID registration.
The ”own choice” alternatives for week 1 and 2 are:
- Choreography (we will focus on the performance on Thursday night including both dance, theatre and art)
- Solo jazz (from black bottom to madison)
- Streetdance (today's music with modern street dance)
