Level Descriptions

LINDY HOP

BEGINNER
No previous training at all necessary. It's enough to be able to separate left from right, the rest is up to our teachers, your spirit and interest.

BEGINNER INTERMEDIATE
A handful of classes, some practise on your own, the basics under control, a few months of experience or maybe a little bit more. The level indicates that you have understood the fundamentals and are able to execute them.

INTERMEDIATE
This is where the majority of hobby- and general social dancers belong. You are familiar with both rhythms and patterns as well as the technique that comes with it. The level will both try to improve on the execution of fairly basic material, but also provide slightly more spiritual and challenging material.

INTERMEDIATE ADVANCED
This level is for experienced dancers, not gold-diggers. We believe that students showing up at this level are confident, technically knowledgable and fairly fluent in the rhythmical language around the dance form. The material in circulation on this level will be challenging from all aspects: rhythmically, technically and tempo wise.

ADVANCED
The registration for the advanced class will be embedded in the registration for Intermediate-Advanced. If you want to try out for the Advanced class you need to register for Intermediate Advanced and then an audition upon arrival will place you in the Intermediate-Advanced or Advanced, depending on your level.

COMPETITION & SHOW
For this class you have to sign up together with a partner. Please refer to the Lindy Hop level descriptions for Intermediate-Advanced and up. Uniquely for this class is the acrobatics that you’ll work on as well as dancing. The Comp & Show track will have two levels. An audition upon arrival will place you in one or the other.

HARLEM ROOTS, INTERMEDIATE
This is where the majority of hobby- and general social dancers belong. You are familiar with both rhythms and patterns as well as the technique that comes with it. The level will both try to improve on the execution of fairly basic material, but also provide slightly more spiritual and challenging material.

HARLEM ROOTS,  INTERMEDIATE ADVANCED
This level is for experienced dancers, not gold-diggers. We believe that students showing up at this level are confident, technically knowledgable and fairly fluent in the rhythmical language around the dance form. The material in circulation on this level will be challenging from all aspects: rhythmically, technically and tempo wise.

MIX CLASS
Your level of Lindy Hop and Authentic Jazz needs to meet the criteria for intermediate or above. In tap, no further or very little xperience is required.

TEACHER'S TRACK, FIRST TIMER
This level is for those who have a limited amount of experience from teaching the lindy or maybe no experience at all.

TEACHER'S TRACK, VETERAN
This class is for those who have several years of experience from teaching the lindy.

BOOGIE WOOGIE

BEGINNER INTERMEDIATE
This is not a beginners class. You require a fundamental knowledge of the six-count basics and the basic figures. We will help you improve the basics and work on your technique and connection.

INTERMEDIATE
Now you are expected to be in control over your six counts and also be able to put in eight counts in your dance without any problems. You should be in control over how to lead or follow and have no problems to social dance to various tempos.

INTERMEDIATE ADVANCED / ADVANCED
At this level self-criticism is probably your most asset knowledge. The best advice we can give you is to not rush to get to this level. There are no set amounts of attended workshops that you’re expected to have fulfilled. If you with good conscience can admit that you without a problem accomplish the above description of levels and feel that you need that little extra something to reach total perfection this is the level for you.

COMPETITION & SHOW
For this class you have to sign up together with a partner. During the week you will together with your partner work on choreographies, different exercises and figures suited for show as well as competition. You need to have a good basic and be prepared to move on quickly. Music interpretation shouldn’t be a challenge.

BALBOA

BEGINNERS INTERMEDIATE
This is not a beginners class. You require a fundamental knowledge of the basic balboa rhythm and the basic figures including pure balboa and basis (double and single), forward/back progressives, paddles, come-around, lolly kicks and throwout. You do not need to be perfect at these, but you should be familiar with them. We will help you improve the basics and work on your technique and connection.

INTERMEDIATE
At this level you should be able to understand the Balboa rhythms by now, and mix between the different styles of closed and open position dancing. This class will focus on different kinds of footwork, as well as some lead and follow figures that are a little bit more complicated than just the basic patterns.

INTERMEDIATE ADVANCED
At this level your fundamental basics and Balboa rhythm are natural to you. To be in this level you should be able to lead or follow different rhythmical variations, both in closed and open positions at all all tempo's. This is the level where you're going to get pushed, in footwork, patterns and tempos.

ADVANCED
The registration for the advanced class will be embedded in the registration for Intermediate-Advanced. If you want to try out for the Advanced class you need to register for Intermediate Advanced and then an audition upon arrival will place you in the Intermediate-Advanced or Advanced, depending on your level.

SLOW DANCE

INTERMEDIATE
Since there are no set basics in this dance the level descriptions refer to a general experience in couples swing dancing. The level will therefore be explained in referral to other swing dances. To be able to participate at this level your swing basics (lindy hop, boogie woogie, balboa..) are performed without a hesitation. Your technique and basics should be at the level where you can use simple rhythmical variations and improvise without fear or favour. You are eager to get a wider vocabulary and a bigger confidence in how to dance to slow music.

ADVANCED
Since there are no set basics in this dance the level descriptions refer to a general experience in couples swing dancing. The level will therefore be explained in referral to other swing dances. In this level you can lead and follow rhythmical variations easily, improvise individually within, adapting your whole dance to the music. You are more than comfortable moving in a slow tempo and you are looking for the details to make it perfect.

AUTHENTIC JAZZ

BEGINNER INTERMEDIATE
You are familiar with some of the basic jazz steps from the swing era and are eager to get a wider vocabulary and a bigger confidence in how to solo dance to jazz music.

Your understanding for the music now makes it easy for you to put your own flavor and personality, in terms of movements and rhythm, to what in the beginning could be thought of as “only” steps.

INTERMEDIATE ADVANCED
At this level please have some self-criticism. The best advice we can give you is to not rush to get to this level.
