Dear swing dancers all over the world –
With reference to our message regarding the camp and the coronavirus that was sent out previously, please find an update below on the situation and therewith information regarding the reactivation of our crowdfunding campaign.
First of all, and once again: thank you very much for all the support and financial contributions in connection to our previous crowdfunding campaign during the late spring and summer. Similarly, many hundreds of dancers agreed for us to retain their registration fees for use at future events once it became clear that the coronavirus would force us to cancel the event last year.
Please note that all donations and all registration fees retained were used to cover the inevitable costs relating to the cancelled 2020 event, essentially rescuing the camp from immediate bankruptcy. Nevertheless, these prepaid registration fees must still be regarded as assets belonging to individual dancers that we are temporarily holding onto, primarily as credit to be used at future events. Presently, Herräng Dance Camp has been saved and all outstanding expenses from last year have been taken care of. The event has also been able to find a small, fragile, but somewhat functional platform to operate from.
If the previous crowdfunding was all about saving Herräng Dance Camp from immediate bankruptcy, the upcoming one is about making sure the event has the monetary foothold needed to organize future events. The crowdfunding alone will not represent the only potential income source; other significant plans of action, including the anticipated Herräng Monthly, are underway (for further information, please revisit the ‘NEWS UPDATES AND INTENTIONS - Actions Commencing’ part of the email that was sent out about three weeks ago). Please also note that all work connected to the crowdfunding as well as the Herräng Monthly has been and will continue to be performed for free by a handful of Stockholm swing dancers.
With this in mind, it’s easy to understand that the financial situation in and around the event is still most precarious. Our position and future plans hinge upon how the pandemic plays out as well as our financial situation. Taking into account all the uncertainties and hard facts mentioned above, we have decided to reactivate our crowdfunding initiative, this time with a goal of SEK 1.000.000. This is a large sum of money, but it also reflects the situation that Herräng Dance Camp is in. All contributions, whether big or small, are most welcome and respectfully appreciated.

Herräng Dance Camp has been one of the driving forces behind the revival of lindy hop and other dances of the jazz age for almost 40 years. Since its inception, the event has always tried to stay close to the roots of the different dance forms and has often been the stomping grounds and natural hangout spot for many of the true originators of swing dancing. Over the years, the event has become a focal point for the interchange of jazz history, skills and ideas, providing a bridge between the past and the present among many other things. Our aim is to continue on this path, and we have no intention of surrendering to an evil virus. If you have enjoyed attending the event, if its values resonate with you, and if you are able to do so, please consider donating to our fundraiser or subscribing to Herräng Monthly.
Thank you very much in advance for your consideration and best regards,
Herräng Dance Camp
