Collegiate Shag

Collegiate Shag is a spot dance whose basic is usually a six count pattern that begins in a closed position or close embrace. In its original form, eight count basics were also used and the dance could resemble Balboa. This style of Shag is known to have been practiced across the United States, including in the Carolinas, Chicago, and Southern California.

Origin: various locations in the U.S in the 1920s.
Music: mainly traditional swing.
Synonyms: Flea Hop.

Intermediate (ONE WEEK FULL TIME)
This is most likely where the majority of hobby and general social dancers belong. Basic rhythms and general mixing of patterns should be familiar, as well as the fundamentals of lead- and follow. The level will both offer quality time around fairly basic material, but also introduce new ideas and patterns.
