Play Jazz and Swing Music
This is a course in how to play swing music on an acoustic instrument. Its focus will be on the knowledge of swing and jazz music suitable for lindy hop dancing. The emphasis will not be on how to read notes or technicalities but rather how to improvise, the feel for jazz and swing and how to speak the rhythmical language of the swing era. Fundamental knowledge of how to play your instrument is therefore needed but it is not necessary to know how to read notes to take part in this course. However you must bring your own instrument.
Each day there will be a class with jazz history followed by instrumental practice which focuses on improvisation as well as imitating the legends of the various instruments. Finally, the whole ensemble plays together and there is an opportunity to try out your new ideas and skills.
In addition to Hans Carling (trumpet), you will meet other musicians from Carling Big Band, including Ulf Carling (drums) and Henrik Johnsson (trombone), who are primarily responsible for the classes.
The course will take place during week 5, the classes will be held from Monday to Friday. Your accommodation will be available until Saturday morning.
Cost: SEK 3500
