What kind of shopping is available in Herräng?
Herräng basically only offers a small supermarket, but Hallstavik is only a short bus ride away and offers larger grocery stores, a pharmacy and a few smaller shops.
Can I get ordinary mail sent to me while visiting the camp?
Yes, you can. The address that preferably should be used is as follows:
"Your name"
Herräng Dance Camp
Poste Restante
SE 760 49 Herräng
SWEDEN
How is the weather in Herräng?
Always beautiful! In case you find reason to question this statement you can always visit www.weather.com and get more detailed information on this subject.
How can I obtain more information about Stockholm in general?
Please go online and visit www.destination-stockholm.com.
How is the balance between followers and leaders in the classes?
The HDC has always been supporting a policy to accept a certain level of misbalance in the classes. For the summer to come we are trying a new registration system and hopefully we will improve drastically the balance in the class to a respectable and comfortable level. To succeed in this project it is very important that people update their registration.
What are those terms and conditions that I’ve agreed to upon registration?
In order to keep a good balance between leaders and followers we had to introduce those terms and conditions:
I agree to the following terms and conditions:
-Your application is now an agreement between you and Herräng Dance Camp 2008. An administration fee of SEK 400 will be charged at the check-in at the camp if your week, number of weeks, dance discipline or class level is not as previously registered.
-The same administration fee applies in case you are not showing up without you having informed us previously. So please update your registration as soon as a change occurs in order to keep a good class balance between leaders and followers.
-The last opportunity to change your registration on our website is the 13th June, 2008. After this date, get in touch with us no later than one week before your registered week starts.
-Please save your Login Information (Username and Password) from the Confirmation Letter sent automatically to your email address upon registration. Should you wish to update your booking, for example change of week, number of weeks, dance discipline, class level or cancel your registration, click on Update Application on the Registration and Orders menu.
-This update process is needed to help us to improve the quality of all camp activities and facilities.
-Read through the level descriptions and then please consult your conscience before choosing your ability level since the Herräng Dance Camp reserves the right to adjust, at the camp, your choice of level if necessary.
Is there something happening in Stockholm after the camp is over?
Yes, on the Sunday (July 27) right after the closing of the 2008 Herräng Dance Camp, Stockholm and mister Mohan Pakkurti will host the Jazz Jam. The event will last only for one day and will consist of live and danceable music in the styles all the way from dixieland, swing to more or less modern jazz. Also included in the program is a big dance competition with a cash money first prize. For more information concerning the Jazz Jam, please visit the future website www.jazzjam.se.
Is it possible to visit the camp without taking classes?
The Herräng Dance Camp is first and foremost a dance camp meant for students signing up for complete programs. At the same time it’s no secret that the event after many years has reached a position where it from some angles can be looked upon as a hybrid between a camp, an exchange, a tourist spot, a low-budget resort, a dating institution, a melting-pot for dance freaks, a surrealistic happening and an international gathering including all continents and all ages. This most pleasant but administrationally sometimes difficult situation is no matter all the above names and angles something we want to continue to support, at the same time we have to underline that our main priority will be toward our students. Visitors and hang-arounds will still be welcome to join in and we will offer the possibility of day cards (one day of classes plus entrance for the evening dance and basic housing) and evening cards (entrance for one dance evening, possible evening classes plus basic housing). Get in touch with us in advance to check the possibility of a day card
How do I proceed if I want to do volunteer work at the camp?
Please fill in our form which is to be found under REGISTRATION AND ORDERS - VOLUNTEERS.
What should I do if I want to get in contact with the café regarding volunteering?
Please send an e-mail to herrangcafe@yahoo.com and they will get back to you shortly.
How do I find out more about the public buses in the area around Herräng?
The public transportation in the area is taken care of by Storstockholms Lokaltrafik and the best way to know more about their service is to visit them at www.sl.se or call at +46 (0)8 600 10 00.
What if I have lost and not found something during the camp?
You will have till the last day of the camp (July 26) to claim your belonging. After this date, we will donate everything to a charity organisation. All valuables other than clothes and shoes will be kept at Chicago swing dance studio throughout September.
How many hours of teaching are included in one-week program?
Every group has an average of 4 hours of teaching every day (Sunday till Friday), totalling 24 hours during a week. The classes are normally 1 hour and 20 minutes long and spread within the interval of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.. Sometimes extra classes (films, discussions, history lectures et cetera) are added to the ordinary schedule
Who will teach my class?
Under Schedules, you will find the teachers listed for each disciplines every week. Our intention is that during the week all classes and levels should get the possibility to meet all teachers. However, if more students than expected show up during a certain week, we may have to ask some of the teachers to focus only on certain classes
Can I stay more than one week in the same program?
Yes, you can. Since we have a different constellation of i.nstructors teaching, the material taught will vary from week to week
Can I stay shorter than one week?
All traditional programs at the camp are seven days long. The exception is for Weekend for Beginners in lindy hop, and Swing Kids-Swing Teens. These are separately described in full detail under headline Schedules.
What are the teachers for Competition & Show in Lindy Hop?
Jenny Francois - Ryan Francois
Isabella Gregorio - Vincenzo Fesi
Åsa Palm - Daniel Heedman
What, where, how should I eat at the camp? What is the price?
There will be a restaurant in the school area that sells food tickets. 7 dinners and 7 breakfasts will cost SEK 900 per week.
